Located on Council Road, Proteus Creation Space is a dynamic creative hub in the heart of Basingstoke.
A vital community resource, we offer an extensive programme of classes, workshops, events and exhibitions catering to a vast range of needs and tastes, as well as venue hire. The Creation Space welcomes everyone - whether you want to get artistic and spark new ideas or simply relax with an exhibition viewing and a cup of tea in the Cafe.
We are open to the public from 9.30am - 5pm Monday - Thursday. Check our What’s On section for opening times outside of these hours.
Parking when you visit Proteus Creation Space
We have a small, free on-site car park for visitors using Creation Space arts centre but are situated within a 1 minute walk to several town centre pay and display car parks. The entrance to the car park is on the left just after you turn into Council Road (opposite the Bounty Inn). Our car park is managed by Parking Eye. You must enter your registration into our system which is a tablet located on the wall next to the box office otherwise you will be issued with an automatic fine.
How to get to us
The Creation Space is a twelve minute walk from Basingstoke station.
Basingstoke is on the London Waterloo line and 45-60 minutes from Waterloo.
By car, exit the M3 at junction 6, following the signs to ‘Ring road South, taking the 3rd exit at the Hackwood roundabout, on to Hackwood road before taking the 2nd left on to Southern road.

Parking Permits at Proteus
Parking in Basingstoke town centre made simple, flexible and affordable.
The average price for a parking permit in this area can cost between £70 and £80 a month. Parking At Proteus offers a cheaper alternative, where you could save almost £180 a year! Our monthly permits allow you to park at the Top of Town without having to find a space or pay and display for £66 a month.

The Proteus Café
Coffee, cake, chat, relax
Our welcoming and relaxed café has re-opened with new regular opening hours of Monday to Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm.
We also open when we have events/exhibitions/performances in the evenings or weekends (unless otherwise stated) so make sure you pop by to our cosy space!
We serve award-winning locally roasted speciality coffee from Moonroast, a selection of teas and other hot and cold drinks delicious cakes and treats from local artisan bakery The Street Bakeshop. We also have a fully licensed bar and will be open to serve a selection of wines, beers and spirits during evening events taking place at the Creation Space.
A lovely place to visit for a meeting, a catch up with friends, on your way back from the school-run or just for some time away from the office!
