Arabian Nights

Tell me a story, Scheherazade...

The stories of Scheherazade are shared with visuals of dance, puppetry and aerial theatre. The audience are asked to join and jump from their seat as we soar through our stories.

The stories of the thousand and one nights are tales of adventure, with monsters and genies, wizards and thieves, all wrapped in the romantic tale of the King of Persia and Scheherazade; the masterful storyteller who must tell a new story each night, with no repeats, to save herself from execution…

Led by a veteran actor and his travelling companion, assisted by a star-struck Bollywood dancer and a charity volunteer, the Arabian Nights are brought to life in a production which fuses human morality with ethnic diversity and a great deal of humour.

We were absolutely spellbound by the whole show. Never imagined such a magnificent set could be produced in a little village hall. The performance was first class – the best theatre I have seen for a long while

Created in Proteus’ unique style fusing circus, magic, film and music, this is an exotic treat, full of heat and spice! So what are you waiting for, climb aboard the magic carpet for the ride of your life!

A show which is thrilling and magical for the whole family to enjoy together. This show displays themes of social intolerance, religion and corruption back through time by skillfully intertwining the old stories of Arabia with the more recent Middle Eastern conflict. The tales of Scheherazade are re-enacted with innovation and a resourceful slant on props, combining shadow puppets with white light rod puppetry and even origami.

Arabian Nights unites the talents of Proteus alumni Umar Ahmed [Butt] and Danny Charles. They are joined by Tumelo Carter (Frankenstein) and Nadia Emam making her Proteus debut.
Written and directed by Mary Swan. Designed by Sam Pine with music by Paul Wild.
