PREVIEW: The Passenger

Join us for preview performances of The Passenger by Ade Berry – an intimate new play about grief, identity, memory and belonging.

Following a profound personal loss, a young man discovers a book about the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles among a collection of inherited belongings. Inspired by a hidden connection to the past, he leaves behind his life in the Midlands and sets off on a journey of discovery.

Written and directed by Ade Berry (From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads) and performed by Alex Walton, The Passenger is an intimate and atmospheric new play about grief, identity, memory and the search for a place to belong.

About Preview Shows

These pieces of brand new contemporary theatre have been developed art part of our Performance Lab artist development programme and are now at the ‘audience testing’ stage before they head out on tour. For some of the artists, this may be the first time this version of the show has been performed to a live audience. Please be aware this may mean that the show will be performed without the full lighting and set that will be part of the tour.
Your feedback after the show is highly appreciated, this may be in the form of a post-show discussion with the artist, a written or digital feedback form, or some vox pop interviews (audio or on camera).

About the Creative Team

Ade Berry – Writer & Director

Ade Berry is a writer, director and arts leader. He was Artistic Director of Jacksons Lane for eighteen years, where he championed new theatre, contemporary circus and multidisciplinary performance.

He wrote and directed From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads, one of the UK’s most successful solo plays. Performed by Alex Walton, the production toured nationally for nearly two years, with 143 performances.

His work explores human stories, memory and identity. The Passenger continues his fascination with the moments that transform our lives.

Alex Walton – Performer

Alex Walton is an actor whose work spans theatre, television and film. He starred in Berry’s acclaimed solo play From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads, which became one of the UK’s most successful solo productions.

His screen credits include The English and The Crucifix, alongside extensive theatre work.

In The Passenger, Alex brings emotional depth and humanity to the story of a man searching for meaning after loss, on a journey from the Midlands to the legendary Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
