Function to Fashion - The Life of Thomas Burberry
Textiles students from Queen Mary’s College have created an exhibition that focuses on the history of Thomas Burberry, the English gentlemen's outfitter and the founder of international chain Burberry, who opened his outfitting business here in Basingstoke in 1856. The exhibition will showcase clothing that the students have created, inspired by both past and contemporary designs, as well as detail the history of the Burberry company. Find out how the classic Burberry gabardine trench coat developed from a functional garment in to an icon of British fashion.
This Project is run by the Wessex Heritage Trust and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
