The Wedding Present

The Wedding Present is a collaborative performance project created by professional Artists and rural communities in the South East.

It is a performance in three acts, moving between three different spaces, utilizing three contrasting performance styles, applying three art forms, collaborating with three groups within the community, to create one celebratory performance piece.

It is designed to happen in four communities over a twelve week period. One community will be in Basingstoke and Deane, one in East Hampshire, one in East Sussex and one in Surrey.

The project will create a performance in each chosen community over a two week period, involving members of the local community and a team of professional Artists. A commissioned 'skeleton' script will form the basis of the work, and the underlying structure of this script will involve a wedding, funeral and a christening taking place during the course of the performance. Each performance would end with the wedding sequence; the audience and participants would then be 'invited' to the reception.

The focus of the script, the characters, the design and music will be devised and crafted by the participants and Artistic Team during the production period.
