Proteus presents two zeitgeist-baiting productions exploring the current obsessions with beauty, celebrity and body image, fusing together burlesque, new circus, multi-media and physical theatre into a total theatre experience.
‘Below Zero' has been created with a team of artists including Mat Fraser and young people from across the South East. ‘Below Zero' includes a comprehensive ‘play day' package and teachers' pack, making it a perfect product for secondary schools and colleges as well as adult audiences.
The critically acclaimed ‘Elephant Man' is back by popular demand and is able to perform in repertoire with ‘Below Zero' – book both in your venue and save 10%! Both shows can also include a free post-show talk.

'I feel like I'm Nothing. Like no one can see me. Less than nothing. Below Zero.'

Written by Kefi Chadwick
Directed by Mary Swan
Music by Paul Wild
Designed by Sam Pine
Marta wants to disappear, Michael can't stop growing. After a chance encounter in a hospital waiting area, their paths merge and between them they create a burlesque fantasy world where they are the ringmasters. But when their reality is shattered, can this world help them survive and what happens when the lines between fantasy and reality are lost?
Using Proteus' distinctive style of fusing circus, film and physical theatre, this is an exploration of modern attitudes toward our own bodies and the obsession with perfection at any cost.
