Identity
“What’s the difference?"
Do you want to be normal, or do you want to be different? What makes you unique, what makes you stand out from the crowd?
In the company's latest interactive workshop project, proteus ask these questions and more as they deal with issues of identity and ethnic origin.
Who do we accept and why? Why do people seem to strive to find something to alienate and hate? Is there a real fear of change, difference and losing our cultural heritage?
Tackling assumptions and bullying, through education, and taking racism head-on, proteus bring a mix of theatre and discussion to teenagers in local secondary schools across North Hampshire.
Proteus has so far brought this workshop to the following schools...
The Wavell School, Farnborough, Hampshire
"The piece was well thought out and very entertaining, the students were engaged from the start through to the finish. The students all became very animated about the issues and were very keen to not only put forward their views, but to put right the wrongs happening on stage."
Fernhill School, Farnborough, Hampshire
"The performance was excellent, our students were engagaed and enjoyed the forum theatre aspect of the workshop. Not only did our students learn (in an effective way) but the message was clear throughout the performance."
Everest Community College, Basingstoke, Hampshire
"Thank you to you and your cast for the two performances and sessions we had yesterday. The groups were still chatting about the issues raised when I saw them later on in the day. The contact with professional actors created a very relevant situation and extremely real characters on stage."
The Connaught School, Aldershot, Hampshire
"It was a worthwhile experience as relevant issues were covered and explored with success. The actors worked really well with pupils and were immediately engaging all involved. The quality of the performance and characterisation helped the pupils identify with the characters."
In partnership with the Ethnic Minorities and Travellers Advisory Service and funded by Hampshire County Council
"This was a fantastic experience for me as a layperson with no prior experience of Drama in education. I felt Proteus responded fantastically well to the brief, delivering something that was more than I had imagined. A fabulous group of professionals!"
